Deputy of Research and Technology

This division is tasked with production of science and modern knowledge and providing the conditions conducive to realize these goals and is currently acting to do so by publishing a journal titled Plant Genetic Research and 4 specialized journals titled Epic Literature, History of Islamic and Iranian Culture and Civilization, Iranian Journal of Plant Physiology and Biochemistry, and Quranic Studies in Literature.

Duties of this division are as follows:

  • Designing the research structure of the university in order to realize the research objectives of the province and the country
  • Contributing to solve the problems of the province through applied research, Article 102, provincial funding, etc.


  • Endeavoring to obtain national, provincial research funding, etc.
  • Compiling and need analysis of research in executive divisions of the province
  • Participation and development of academic communities in universities
  • Helping to expand scientific and research communication with research communities of the country and other universities
  • Endeavoring to obtain publishing rights for scientific-research and scientific-promotional journals, etc.
  • Expanding communication and promotion of culture of using electronic resources
  • Supervision and assessment of all research activities
  • Endeavoring to encourage faculty members to carry out applied research projects, participate in national and international seminars and conferences, membership in scientific associations, etc. The activities of this division in two sectors of research and technology are as follows:

A: Research

Central Laboratory of Lorestan University: The central laboratory of Lorestan University was built in the summer of 2013 in order to optimally organize and utilize advanced laboratory equipment and provide easy and equal access to laboratory facilities as well as exchange information between researchers inside and outside of the university.

The laboratory is built in the main site of the university in Kamalvand (next to the Faculty of Science). However, some of the other complex equipment available in other faculties which can be shared are under the supervision of this laboratory.

This laboratory is supervised by the Vice Chancellor for Research Office and all its services are provided at the rate approved by the university.

In addition to providing service to the faculty members and students of Lorestan University, this laboratory is ready to provide laboratory services to researchers and other bodies outside the university.

Laboratory Equipment: Scanning Electron Microscope SEM device available in the central laboratory of Lorestan University is manufactured by TESCAN Co. in Czech Republic (FE-SEM model).

Application: Scanning Electron Microscope can be applied in nano-chemistry, nano-physics, biology, geology, mining, materials engineering, agriculture, medical science and other fields of science.

Advantages: The type of the microscope of the Lorestan University is Field Emission and thus it has much greater depth of field and resolution than normal scanning electron microscope and can produce images with magnification of a million times.

This microscope can examine dried samples like thin and polished sections of stone, metals, ceramics, powdered chemicals, solid samples of plant including leaves, stems, and seeds of plants as well as animal samples.

Besides, this device is equipped with a thermos-electronic system which is Peltier-based and can freeze bio samples at very low temperatures and examine them without gold coating.

The advantage of this method compared to the dry method is that the texture of the sample remains intact and the sample is examined in natural conditions. Another important part of the device is EDS or elemental analysis which can measure elemental analysis of the sample’s surface.

This device is equipped with detectors listed below: 49 University Divisions

  1. Secondary Electron Detector (SED): for topographic images
  2. Back Scatter Electron Detectors: for fuzzy images
  3. Low vacuum secondary TESCAN Detector (LVSTD detector): for images of non-inductive samples in low vacuum pressures
  4. IN-Beam SE Detector: for topographic images in high vacuum
  5. IN-Beam BSE Detector: for fuzzy images in high vacuum
  6. Cathodoluminescence Detector (CLD): to identify the structure of compounds and characterize optical materials)

B: Technology

Producing science and technology as well as doing research require broadband internet with high quality. In other words, access to high speed internet with desirable quality is one of the most important factors in achieving scientific findings which in turn, would result in prosperous scientific practice and research in the university and its affiliated academic and research centers.

Lorestan University, as the mother university of the province and with 10,000 students and 264 faculty members-10 Professors, 50 Associate Professors, and 166 Assistant Professors-, has taken the following measures to :achieve said goals in the area of research and technology

  1. Upgrading the internet bandwidth of the university: After much persistence by the esteemed Vice Chancellor for Research and Technology as well as a lot of consultation with the Governor’s Office and the Telecommunication Company of the Province, the bandwidth of the university’s internet was increased in two stages: in May, 2015, from 34Mb to 60Mb and from 60Mb to 1STM, i.e. 155Mb, in June, 2016.
  2. Upgrading the bandwidth of the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the Vali Asr Dormitory Complex (In Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources, the bandwidth was increased from 8Mb to 100Mb and in Vali Asr Dormitory Complex, it was raised from 4Mb to 30Mb)
  3. Upgrading the core switch of the university and the edge router at the cost of over one billion Rials
  4. Upgrading the connectivity of the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the Vali Asr Dormitory Complex from layer 2 to layer 3 switch
  5. Developing the IP Plan
  6. Upgrading the VPN Server of the university from MikroTik to Cisco Router
  7. Upgrading DHCP service on Layer-3 equipment
  8. Cabling and establishing connection in the Physical Education Administration and Imam Ali Sports Hall
  9. Cabling and establishing connection in the new building of the Counseling and Healthcare Center of the university
  10. Cabling the new premises of Public Relations and International Department of the university
  11. Cabling the new premises of the Construction Department of the university
  12. Cabling the new premises of the Legal Affairs Department of the university
  13. Cabling the central amphitheater of the Faculty of Science 80 University Divisions
  14. Installing attendance and nutrition checking devices in all dormitories and establishing connection in the supervisor’s room
  15. Cabling the new Roqayieh Dormitory
  16. Cabling the new laboratories of the Faculty of Agriculture
  17. Cabling part of the building of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine
  18. Cabling the faculty members’ rooms in various faculties
  19. Re-cabling Vali Asr Dormitory No. 2
  20. Re-cabling Vali Asr Dormitory No. 3

  22. Cabling and establishing connection in the new veterinary clinic located at the main site of the university
  23. Amending the physical platform of the network in all dormitories
  24. Cabling the new location dedicated to the university’s IT Department
  25. Cabling to install new wireless equipment in the office buildings and various faculties
  26. Cabling the space assigned to the CERT Center of Lorestan University
  27. Cabling the space assigned to the Innovation Acceleration Center of the university
  28. Cabling the space assigned to the Business Incubator of the university Wireless Technology
  29. Access Point: After much persistence on the part of the Vaice Chancellor for Research and Technology of the University and allocation of over three billion Rials (IRR 3,000,000,000), the wireless platform of dormitories was generally upgraded to address the following deficiencies:
  • Connectivity of only 10 to 15 simultaneous users
  • Very narrow bandwidth
  • Disconnection and loss of network connection with power outages
  • Too many blind spots
  • The need for IT experts on site to repair the device
  • The Advantages of the New Devices
  • Possibility of connection of 250 simultaneous users to each device
  • 1Gb of bandwidth for data transmission per Access Point
  • The ability to remotely control all the devices
  • No blind spots in the buildings
  • Signal distribution using Beam Forming technology to provide optimal access in users’ assembly sites
  • The ability to monitor and manage access by users
  • Load balancing to evenly distribute the users between Access Points
  • Change and placement of the devices and building physical platform and cabling in faculties and dormitories



  1. Establishing connection in Vali Asr Dormitory No. 3 via broadband radios (25Mb) costing over two hundred million Rials
  2. Establishing satellite connection in 4 higher education centers in Nourabad, Aleshtar, Poldokhtar and Kouhdasht via broadband radios (50Mb) to the Lorestan University’s network costing over a billion Rials
  3. Establishing connection in the Veterinary Specialty Hospital via wireless platform
  4. Establishing connection in the new building of the Counseling and Healthcare Center at the north side of Kamalvand and on the hillside of the beautiful mountains of Siah Kamar via wireless platform
  5. Establishing connection in central laboratory No. 2 via wireless platform
  6. Providing IT services, maintenance and support for the network of private schools
  7. Buying and installing video conference system at the cost of over three hundred million Rials
  8. Transferring Government Data Network (GDN) from Vali Asr Dormitory No. 3 to the Data Center of the university to prevent repeated disconnection at the cost of over fifty million Rials
  9. Opening CERT Center
  10. Upgrading the hardware and software of the attendance system
  11. Setting up personal pages for teachers
  12. Setting up and operating the laboratories system
  13. Designing a new portal for the university and setting up responsive pages to display in several devices
  14. Designing and setting up responsive English portal to display on several devices
  15. Setting up the web-based version of the digital library of Lorestan University
  16. Upgrading the antivirus of the university’s network at the cost of over IRR 270,000,000
  17. Upgrading the Mail Server of the university at the cost of IRR 180,000,000
  18. Making backups of data servers.
