LU at a Glance

Lorestan University started in 1977 as the northern branch of the Jundishapur University of Ahvaz (Shahid Chamran University). In 1979, the Lorestan Branch was separated from Shahid Chamran University and continued its activities as Lorestan Higher Education Institute with four Departments of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. In 1993, coinciding with the visit of the Supreme Leader to Lorestan Province, this higher education institute was formally and effectively promoted to the title of university.

Currently, Lorestan University has six faculties including Faculty of Science, Faculty of Engineering, Literature and Human Sciences, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources, and Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and four affiliated higher education institutes in Nourabad, Aleshtar, Kouhdasht, and Poldokhtar. This university currently teaches 223 majors at undergraduate, graduate, and Ph.D. levels, of which, 59 are PhD majors, 106 are graduate majors, 57 are undergraduate majors and 1 is a major of professional doctorate. 18 of these majors are taught in affiliated higher education institutes. Presently, there are 9341 students studying in various programs of this university.
